Description
Mt Batterbee - Painted Desert - Outback Australia by Lexa Harpell.
Multi coloured rocky outcrops and hills emerge out of the flat desert landscape in the iconic rusted orange, white and reds.
The Painted Desert sits on the pastoral land of Arckaringa Station in South Australia.
It is part of the Breakaways range south, near Coober Pedy.
It's in a remote area with travel via unsealed dirt roads that can be a bit notorious with corrugations, wheel ruts, dirt gutters and at times flooded creek crossings. So look up the road conditions before you travel.
You can get there by 2WD when road conditons are good-ish, just slowly!
Yet it is well worth it.
As it is part of Arckaringa Cattle Station, they have opened part of their land near the homestead to camp for a night or two. A fabulous outback experience!

A wonderful (aerial?) shot Lexa!
Lexa Harpell replied:
Not aerial Bette...the only rise in the whole flat landscape dips into this bowl. Thanks Bette! L:)
